WHAT IS THIS?!!!
WHY HAVE I MISSED THIS IN MY CHILDHOOD?!?!?!?!NEW FAVORITE HANDHELD ZELDA. HANDS DOWN.
Oh my God, Minish Cap was a blast to play, I enjoyed the entire game! I love, LOVE Capcom and Nintendo Zelda's, they always produce the BEST for this franchise!
However...
As I finished this MASTERPIECE, I took it upon myself to explore further into the (for me) still mysterious world of handheld Zelda games.
By Din's fire. Did I stumble upon something that was TAINTED TO ITS CORE with Evil.
I speak of the DS Zeldas.
Hear me out, I really found quite a bit to like about the games, But the thing that ruins it totally for me, is the ridiculously tedious Stylus and microphone control mechanics.
ESPECIALLY in Temple of Courage (F**K YOU, TEMPLE OF COURAGE, I F**king HATE YOUR GUTS, GOD DAMN YOU!!!!), and the stupid flute part with Gage in Spirit Tracks (FOR F**ks SAKE, I CAN'T BLOODY BREATH FROM BLOWING INTO THIS GODDESS DAMNED MICROPHONE, PLEASE KILL ME!!!)
I am playing all 3 games on the Wii U VC. Because I missed out on the DS and Minish Cap, I don't even remember hearing much about the latter when it came out.
I truly hope Nintendo doesn't revive that style of gameplay. I also have a hard time believing the scores the DS Zeldas got, I feel they may be a 6.5-7/10 soley due to the stylus and microphone gameplay. It really takes away from the experience for me. And it's sad, because they have such GREAT potential as true-to-form Zeldas, but the ball was tossed too far "out of the box" in designing that game style. It may work better for other games, but not on Zelda.
I've game over-ed too many times in the first 3 hours of Phantom Hourglass to really say I'll enjoy finishing this game. And I haven't even gotten to the first temple in Spirit Tracks (besides the Tower of Spirits).
PS: I don't get why everyone hates the Temple of the Ocean King. What's up with it? It was hardly a challenging dungeoun, and I actually enjoyed it for what it was!
Oh well.
